Our Chapter formed in the fall of 2005, we partnered with several local non-profits, joined the Chamber of Commerce, organized the first Veterans Day Parade in Dawson County and have been supporting and assisting Veterans and their families ever since.
We work with the Etowah Lodge to put out the Veterans Flags and Markers on Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Veterans Day.
Our fund raisers sponsor NOA (No One Alone) a Domestic Violence Shelter, KareKids a national organization connected with the Miracle Network , and the Rainbow Childrens Home.
We work closely with the Dawson Veterans Affairs Committee and the Lumpkin County Veterans Advisory Committee to coordinate Veterans holidays, memorials, parades and fundraisers.
We maintain the Military Branch Flags at the War Memorial in the Veterans Memorial Park in Dawsonville.
Our Scholarship Program is very important to us and awards scholarships to a senior from Dawson High and Lumpkin High every year.
The Chapter was also successful in securing a bi-monthly visit from the Veterans Service Officer (VSO) who assists Veterans and their families with medical and pension issues in a three county area.
We gather every Friday at a local resturant for breakfast, get together twice a year for family picnics, and hold our formal Vietnam Veterans Of America meetings the 2nd Monday of every month, 6pm at Ryans in Dawsonville ( spouses welcome ).
We are proud to be a strong, visible, participative and influencial part of the Dawson and Lumpkin county communities.
We encourage you to join us at our next monthly meeting.
I want to send a special "Thank You" to our partners: Ingles, Kroger and the Dawsonville and Dahlonega
Wal-marts for their unwaivering support.
Bill Martin, President
